The Buttercross



This is the Buttercross, one of the oldest structures in my town. You can't see it very well because of the repair works, but the central pillar is said to be over 1000 years old. It was used as a kind of market stall where people would meet to sell things like butter, which is where the name comes from.

If you notice the English flags hanging from the pub behind the Buttercross... that's because there's an England football game this weekend, not because people are actually patriotic or anything like that. :-)
